You might relate to this more than you think.

    • You overanalyse texts, silences, and tone of voice — looking for signs someone is pulling away
    • You work hard to be easy, agreeable, and low-maintenance so people won't leave
    • When someone you love gets distant, even briefly, panic sets in
    • You apologise constantly, even when you've done nothing wrong
    • You've stayed in relationships longer than you should have, because leaving felt unbearable
    • Deep down, you wonder if you're truly loveable — or if people only stay out of obligation

This isn't a personality flaw. It's a wound — usually one that formed long before you had the words for it.

What fear of abandonment really is

Fear of abandonment isn't just about being left. It's about a nervous system that learned early — through loss, inconsistency, or not feeling truly seen — that connection is fragile and you have to work hard to keep it.

For some people, that lesson came from childhood. For others, it came from a relationship that ended badly, a parent who was there but not really present, or an experience that made belonging feel uncertain.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) helps you identify the thought patterns and behaviours keeping you in this cycle — and gradually build a steadier sense of security that doesn't depend on other people's reactions.

    Corinna Shen, Registered Psychotherapist

    Meet Corinna

Registered Psychotherapist (Q) · CRPO Registered

Corinna was adopted from China at five months old. She grew up knowing her story — her mom was open about it from the very beginning, framing it not as something to explain away, but as part of who she was. And for the most part, that foundation held.

But she still remembers the first time a classmate looked at her and said: "So you weren't wanted?"

That question — and the ones that followed — is something Corinna has sat with for a long time. Not with bitterness, but with real curiosity about what belonging means, where it comes from, and why it can feel so fragile even when you're loved.

Before becoming a therapist, Corinna was a teacher. She watched students struggle with exactly the kinds of things her clients bring to her now: not knowing how to trust people, working hard to keep the peace, feeling paralyzed when it came to their own needs. She wanted to do more than notice those patterns. She wanted to help change them.

Using CBT, Corinna helps clients trace the fear of abandonment back to where it started — and build something steadier in its place. Her approach is warm, direct, and grounded in her own experience of learning what secure connection actually feels like.

She won't just sit with you in the feeling. She'll help you understand it, question it, and move through it.
